Tesoro Tejon

The Tesoro Tejon stands as one of the most respected all-purpose metal detectors ever produced by Tesoro Electronics, a brand long celebrated among hobbyists for building rugged, dependable machines in the United States. Designed with coin shooters, relic hunters, and general treasure seekers in mind, the Tejon strikes a balance between simplicity and performance that has made it a favorite for decades. Its 8-inch concentric coil offers excellent sensitivity to small targets while still providing enough depth for larger relics, making it versatile across parks, beaches, old home sites, and wooded trails. The detector operates on a frequency of 14.3 kHz, a sweet spot that allows for strong discrimination between junk and valuable targets without sacrificing sensitivity to gold jewelry or old coins.

What sets the Tesoro Tejon apart from many competitors is its renowned electronic simplicity paired with powerful analog circuitry. Instead of overwhelming users with complicated digital menus, the Tejon relies on straightforward knob controls for discrimination, sensitivity, and threshold adjustment, allowing detectorists to fine-tune their hunt quickly in the field. This intuitive design appeals strongly to purists who prefer tactile feedback and audio tones over visual target IDs, since the Tejon’s true strength lies in its clear, responsive audio signals that allow experienced users to identify targets by sound alone. The machine’s turn-on-and-go functionality also makes it approachable for beginners who want a no-nonsense detector that performs reliably without a steep learning curve.

Built with Tesoro’s legendary lifetime warranty, the Tejon reflects the company’s confidence in its construction and electronics, a reassurance that has earned fierce customer loyalty over the years. Its lightweight design reduces fatigue during long hunting sessions, while the durable housing withstands the rigors of outdoor use, including contact with sand, moisture, and uneven terrain. Many detectorists praise the Tejon’s ability to handle highly mineralized soil, a common challenge in relic hunting areas, thanks to its adjustable ground balance control. Whether searching for Civil War relics, old coins, or lost jewelry, the Tesoro Tejon remains a trusted companion in the metal detecting community, admired for its reliability, simplicity, and consistent field performance even years after its release.
